Common mistakes

  • Applying before three full years of marriage or civil partnership.
  • Counting residence wrongly. Couples in Cyprus need at least six months here each year and at least two years in total over the last three.
  • Signing in advance. You sign the declaration and the affirmation of faith in front of a Registrar of Court or a consular officer.
  • Filing one copy. The application goes in two copies, with the two €8.54 stamps on one of them.
  • Forgetting the Cypriot spouse's statement of harmonious cohabitation or the Community Leader's certificate of cohabitation.
  • Sending untranslated or uncertified documents. The list asks for official translations and certification.
