Residence permit Cyprus: choose the right route

Which residence permit in Cyprus fits you depends on your passport and on what you will do here. EU citizens register for the Yellow Slip (MEU1), in about 1 month. Non-EU citizens choose a Cyprus residency permit by purpose: the visitor Pink Slip to live on income from abroad (a decision in up to 4 months), the digital nomad visa for remote work (5–7 weeks), a work permit with a Cyprus employer, or permanent residence through investment (about 2 months). For most routes you need a valid passport, health insurance, proof of income or a job offer, a clean criminal record and a Cyprus address. We check which route fits, prepare the file and submit it with you at the Civil Registry and Migration Department.

Immigration to Cyprus: which residence permit fits

Start with citizenship and purpose of stay. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens who stay more than three months must apply for a Registration Certificate (MEU1) within four months of arrival; “Yellow Slip” is its common nickname. Citizens of other countries need a residence route that fits their purpose, such as employment, family, study, remote work or visitor residence. “Pink Slip” is an informal name for the visitor residence permit, not a label for every non-EU permit.

Residence permits are handled by the Migration Department of the Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection, still widely known as the Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD). In Nicosia you file at the department itself; in other districts, at the Police Aliens and Immigration Unit. Our migration department guide has the addresses, appointments and online renewals.

We confirm which route fits you, prepare the file and keep you updated until the decision; where a representative is required, a licensed advocate signs and submits it.

Questions

Which residence permit do I need for Cyprus?

It depends on citizenship and purpose. EU citizens staying over three months apply for a Registration Certificate (MEU1, commonly called the Yellow Slip); non-EU citizens need the permit for their route. Pink Slip is an informal name for a visitor residence permit. Employment, family, student and digital-nomad routes have separate requirements.

Where do I apply for a residence permit in Cyprus?

At the Migration Department in Nicosia, or at the Police Aliens and Immigration Unit of your district elsewhere. Some renewals are moving online.

Can I get permanent residence or citizenship later?

Yes. Permanent residence by investment is a separate route, and citizenship by naturalisation follows years of legal residence. Each has its own page below.

Not sure which residency service you need?
