Common mistakes

  • Bringing documents that are too old: Nicosia accepts originals issued no earlier than three months before the application, and an affidavit is valid for one month.
  • Skipping the official translation into Greek or English, or the apostille or consular legalisation.
  • Booking too short a stay. On the standard route the ceremony is at least 15 days after the notice; Limassol advises staying about 20 days.
  • Using a divorce that is not yet final. Cypriot decrees must be stamped at least 42 days after issue.
  • Forgetting an interpreter. If one of you speaks neither Greek nor English, the couple books and pays an official translator.
