Questions

Are you a law firm?

No. We handle your matter, and work that Cyprus law reserves to advocates, such as legal opinions and court representation, is signed by a licensed Cyprus advocate.

How do I check that someone is a lawyer in Cyprus?

Search their name on the Cyprus Bar Association member list; only advocates enrolled there with a valid annual licence may practise.

How are fees set?

For court cases, advocates' fees follow a scale of court costs approved by the Supreme Court, and a higher fee can be agreed in writing. For other work we agree the scope and fee with you in writing before work starts.

Is there legal aid?

In some cases. Free legal aid is available in criminal cases when the court finds it in the interests of justice, and in certain civil cases such as family-court proceedings, for example divorce; the application is made to the competent court.

Can a lawyer from my country act in Cyprus?

EU lawyers can register with the Cyprus Bar Association; the Bar publishes a separate list of registered European lawyers.
