Tax residency certificate Cyprus: how to get one for banks and home

The certificate proves you were Cyprus tax resident for a year. It is issued only for countries that have a double tax treaty with Cyprus; banks, brokers and your home tax office ask for it.

Questions

Can I get it in my first year?

Usually after the year ends, once residency is established.

When can I apply for the certificate?

For a year in which you meet a residency rule. Example: you arrive on 1 March 2026 and spend 250 days in Cyprus that year. That is more than 183, so you are resident for 2026 and we apply for the 2026 certificate. With only 70 days here, you need the 60-day rule. It also asks for no more than 183 days in any other country, no other tax residence, and work and a home in Cyprus.

How much does a tax residency certificate cost?

The Tax Department charges €80 in fee stamps for each certificate. You pay at the cash desk when you collect it.

Can a company get a Cyprus tax residency certificate?

Yes. A company files form T.D.98 with its certificate of incorporation from the Registrar of Companies. The form includes questions on where the company is managed, so the answers must match how the board really works.

What if the other country wants its own form?

Some countries do. We fill in their form and the Tax Department stamps it the same way, with the same fee.
