Who fills it in
Adults who have lived in Cyprus legally for the 12 months immediately before applying (absences of up to 90 days in total allowed) and for at least 7 of the 10 years before that, with Greek at B1, at least 60% in the exam on Cyprus's political and social reality, suitable housing and stable income. Highly skilled employees of qualifying companies need 4 years with Greek A2 or 3 years with B1 instead of 7.
What goes with it
- Original birth certificate
- Original clean criminal record certificate from the Republic of Cyprus, valid for 6 months
- Copy of your valid residence permit and of your valid passport or travel document
- Copies of the passport pages with arrival and departure stamps, and a detailed record of your arrivals in and departures from Cyprus
- Marriage certificate or civil partnership agreement, where applicable
- Copies of the notices from two consecutive publications in a daily newspaper announcing your application
- Greek language certificate at A2 or B1 (as applicable), a certificate from the School of Modern Greek of the University of Cyprus, or a Greek-language school diploma or degree
- Certificate of a grade of at least 60% in the exam on the basic elements of the contemporary political and social reality of Cyprus
- Proof of housing: title deed, purchase agreement or rental agreement with payment receipts, and utility bill receipts
- Proof of income: payslips, employment contract, social insurance, income tax or bank statements
- Highly skilled route only: certificate from the Business Facilitation Unit or the Migration Department that your employer meets Council of Ministers Decision 92.018 (not needed by holders of permits with BCS status)
- Two recent passport photos certified by the Community Leader
- Copy of the €500 fee receipt, and of the €5,000 receipt if a highly skilled applicant asks for accelerated examination

Common mistakes
- Counting your years from the printed text. Section V still shows the old 4-out-of-7-years rule; since 19 December 2023 you need 12 months in a row plus at least 7 of the previous 10 years (3 or 4 for highly skilled employees).
- Signing at home. The application is signed in front of a Registrar, who countersigns it.
- Leaving trips out of section V. The countries you visited should match your passport stamps and the arrivals and departures record you attach.
- Choosing your lawyer, an agent or a relative as guarantor. The guarantor text excludes them, and each guarantor must be a Cypriot citizen.
- Filing before the newspaper notices appear. Copies of two consecutive notices are on the document list.
- Bringing the Greek certificate but not the second exam. You need Greek at B1 (A2 or B1 on the highly skilled route) and at least 60% in the exam on Cyprus's political and social reality.
Questions
Is there an English version of form M127?
No. The Ministry of Interior publishes M127 as a scanned Greek form; only the list of supporting documents is in English. This page gives the English for each section.
How much does Cypriot citizenship by naturalisation cost?
€500 when you apply, plus two €8.54 stamps on the form, and another €500 for the certificate if the application is approved. Highly skilled employees and their family members can pay €5,000 for an examination of no more than 8 months.
How many years must I live in Cyprus before applying?
12 months of continuous legal residence immediately before the application (absences of up to 90 days in total are allowed), plus at least 7 years of legal residence in the 10 years before that. Highly skilled employees of qualifying companies need 4 years with Greek A2 or 3 years with B1, and must have worked for such a company for at least two years.
Who can be a guarantor on M127?
The printed guarantor text says each of the three guarantors must be a citizen of the Republic of Cyprus who knows you personally, and must not be your lawyer, agent or relative.
Do I need to speak Greek?
Yes. You need a Greek certificate at B1 (A2 or B1 on the highly skilled route), unless you hold a diploma from a Greek-language secondary school or a degree taught in Greek.
