In short
- The Registrar's eSearch is free for the basics: name, status, registered office, current directors and secretary, filed documents.
- A detailed search costs €10 and shows the full history, including members and share capital; certificates cost €20 each.
- Public access to the beneficial owners register has been suspended since 23 November 2022; only authorities and obliged entities can search it.
Where to search
The official register of Cyprus companies, partnerships, business names and overseas companies is kept by the Department of Registrar of Companies and Intellectual Property. Its online eSearch is linked from the eServices section of companies.gov.cy. You search by company name or registration number (for example HE 123456).
Many private websites resell the same data or order certificates on your behalf for a mark-up. They are not the Registrar. CyprusPermit is not the Registrar either: we explain what you see, flag what looks wrong and bring in a licensed lawyer or accountant when a full due diligence is needed.
What you see for free
Once you select a company, the Registrar shows free of charge:
- name, registration date and type of entity;
- status (for example registered, struck off or in liquidation);
- registered office address;
- names of the current directors and secretary;
- pending filings and a preview of filed documents;
- the date of the last annual return filing.
This is often enough for a first check: does the company exist, is it active, and do the directors match the people you are dealing with?
What the €10 detailed search adds
For a €10 fee you can open the company's electronic file with all historic data from registration to the search date. For a company it includes:
- name history and registered office history;
- directors and secretaries, past and present;
- members (shareholders), past and present;
- share capital history;
- charges and mortgages registered after 2000;
- an overview of all filed documents.
Shareholders are not in the free view, so pay for the detailed search if ownership matters to you.
Certificates and certified copies
Banks, notaries and foreign registries usually ask for official certificates rather than a screenshot. You can order them online through the Registrar's e-filing system, paying by credit card, or by hand, post or email; after incorporation, a certified copy of the memorandum and articles only by hand or post. Official fees:
- €20 per certified copy or certificate (for example certificate of registration, of directors and secretary, of shareholders, of registered office);
- €40 for a certified copy of the memorandum and articles of association when you supply the copy, €50 when you do not;
- +€20 per document for the accelerated procedure.
The Registrar also offers an online check of the authenticity of e-certificates, for 90 days from issue. For use abroad you may also need an apostille.
Beneficial owners: who can see them
The register of beneficial owners (UBO register) is a separate register. A normal company search does not show beneficial owners.
Public access was suspended on 23 November 2022, after the Court of Justice of the EU ruled on 22 November 2022 (joined cases C-37/20 and C-601/20) that open public access seriously interferes with the rights to privacy and data protection. According to the Registrar, access now remains only for:
- competent and supervisory authorities and the financial intelligence unit;
- obliged entities such as banks, lawyers and accountants, for customer due diligence, with a solemn declaration and a fee of €3.50 per entity, after the Registrar approves the request.
The register keeps only the current beneficial owners and nothing from before 12 March 2021. As of 24 October 2026 the Registrar site shows no announcement that public access has been restored. Companies must still file and update their beneficial owners: within 90 days of incorporation, within 45 days of learning of a change and with a yearly confirmation from 1 October to 31 December.
Common mistakes
- Checking a similar name instead of the registration number.
- Relying on the free view for ownership: shareholders appear only in the paid search.
- Ignoring an old last annual return date, which can mean the company is behind with filings.
- Paying a reseller for data or certificates the Registrar sells directly.
- Expecting to see beneficial owners as a member of the public.
When to get help
Buying a company, signing a large contract or onboarding a Cyprus partner calls for more than a registry check: accounts, tax status, litigation and beneficial owners.
