Company name approval Cyprus: the Registrar's name application, field by field

Before a Cyprus company, partnership or business name can be registered, the Registrar of Companies must approve the name: the name approval application is the first step. The application is a one-page form with a short questionnaire the Registrar may send afterwards. This page explains each field and the Registrar's rules on names.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a name too similar to an existing company. The Registrar does not allow it.
  • Using restricted words such as National, International, Europe, Euro or Republic without strong reasons; the notes allow them only in special circumstances.
  • Using Bank, Banking, Investment, Trust, Insurance or Broker lightly. The notes allow these words only if the circumstances justify them.
  • Picking a name that is not a director's or shareholder's name without explaining it at A2 or in the questionnaire.
  • Including Co-operative, Municipal, Privileged, Recognised or Approved. The notes do not allow them.
