Immigration office Nicosia: the Migration Department

Nicosia has no separate police immigration unit for residents. People who live in Nicosia district go straight to the Migration Department head office on Archbishop Makarios III Avenue, where most services are first come, first served. The same building is the only place for several permit types from all over Cyprus. Details checked on 23 October 2026.

Who is served in Nicosia, and what is filed only here

Nicosia district residents file every application at the head office: yellow slips, MEU2 cards, visitor permits, employment and family permits.

Residents of other districts are served in Nicosia only through a duly authorised representative whose office is in Nicosia. Otherwise they use the police unit of their district.

Filed only in Nicosia, wherever you live: Immigration Permits, long-term resident status, companies of foreign interests, EU Blue Card, shipping companies, intra-corporate transfers, digital nomads, start-up visa, third-country family reunification and entry permits for students and researchers.

Online: renewals of employment, foreign-interest company and long-term resident permits, accepted only online from 1 January 2027.

Documents to bring, by permit type

Yellow Slip (MEU1): passport or ID; proof of work (employer-signed Part III and Social Insurance statement), study or income; a title deed or stamped rental contract with certified signatures and an original utility bill in your name. In Nicosia district the water account is with the Nicosia District Local Government Organisation (NDLGO) at 84 Athalassas Avenue, Strovolos.

Visitor permit (Pink Slip): form MVIS8, passport, Cypriot bank statement showing at least €24,000 a year from abroad for one person (plus 20% for a spouse, 15% per child), a 10-year bank guarantee, Plan A health insurance, accommodation documents, and for a first permit a criminal record certificate and medical tests stamped in Cyprus.

Long-term resident status: form MLT3 and its document list, by appointment.

Family members: apostilled and translated marriage and birth certificates. Third-country family reunification is filed here even if you live in another district.

Processing times and fees

  • Yellow Slip (MEU1): €20, within one month.
  • MEU2 card: €20, within six months.
  • Visitor permit: €70 plus €70 first registration, usually within four months.
  • Remunerated employment: €120 first permit, €130 renewal, €70 first registration; within four months.
  • Long-term resident status: €30; examination takes 6 to 12 months; the first permit is valid for five years.

Times apply to complete files. For walk-in services the queue length depends on the day, and the department publishes no waiting-time figure. Check a file by SMS: STATUS and the application number to 1199 (€0.034 per SMS).

Practical tips for the Nicosia office

Practical advice, not official rules.

  • For walk-in services, come early in the day. Entry stops at 14:00.
  • Have the fee receipt number to hand. It is also the number you use for SMS status checks.
  • If you live in Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos or Famagusta and your permit type is not Nicosia-only, going in person will not work without a Nicosia-based representative.
  • For appointment-only services, email the right address from the list above. The department lists these addresses for booking and changing appointments.

CyprusPermit is not a law firm or a government body. We prepare the file and keep track of the dates; where a representative is needed, a licensed advocate submits it. See permanent residence help and long-term resident help.
