In short
- An advocate must be enrolled in the Register of Advocates and hold an annual licence from the Cyprus Bar Council; the Bar's members list is searchable by name or phone.
- A firm offering accounting, audit or administrative services needs an ICPAC practising certificate; ICPAC publishes lists of licensed firms and auditors.
- Estate agents must be registered and licensed by the Real Estate Agents Registration Council, which lists more than 600 licensed agents.
- A licensed employment agency may not charge the worker any fee for finding or keeping a job.
Why check before you pay
In Cyprus court work, legal opinions and company documents are reserved for advocates; accounting firms, auditors and administrative service providers need an ICPAC certificate; estate agents and private employment agencies need a licence; investment firms need CySEC authorisation. Every one of these has a public register.
A check takes five minutes and protects your deposit, your documents and your residence file. CyprusPermit is not a law firm or a regulator. Work that Cyprus law reserves to advocates or auditors is signed by a licensed advocate or ICPAC-registered auditor. We tell you who signs before work begins.

Lawyers: the Cyprus Bar Association register
To practise as an advocate in Cyprus, a person must be enrolled in the Register of Advocates, kept by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, and hold an annual practising licence from the Cyprus Bar Council.
To check a lawyer, open the Cyprus Bar Association's Cypriot Advocate Members list and type a name or phone number. EU lawyers registered in Cyprus are in a separate European Advocate Members list. Compare the name in Greek and Latin letters, the office and the phone with what the lawyer gave you.
If something does not match, contact the Bar: 11 Florinis Street, 1065 Nicosia, phone 22 87 33 00, info@cba.org.cy. See our find a lawyer service.
Accountants and auditors: ICPAC registers
A firm that provides accounting, administrative services or audit in Cyprus needs a practising certificate from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Cyprus (ICPAC). ICPAC publishes registers of:
- accountants and accounting firms;
- statutory auditors and audit firms;
- licensed persons and firms providing administrative services;
- insolvency consultants.
The lists show who is licensed on the day you look; ICPAC notes that more applications may be under review. Look for the firm itself, not only for one accountant who works there.
Investment firms: CySEC
If someone offers to manage or trade your money from Cyprus, the firm must be authorised by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission. CySEC's Regulated Entities section lists Cypriot investment firms, former investment firms, tied agents and administrative service providers. It also publishes a list of approved domains: if the website you use is not on it, treat it as a warning.
Estate agents: the Registration Council
Under the Real Estate Agents Law 71(I)/2010, as amended by 157(I)/2012, an estate agent must be entered in the Register of Real Estate Agents and hold a licence from the Real Estate Agents Registration Council, a semi-governmental body under the Ministry of Interior. A registration application costs €100, and applicants sit a written exam.
The Council's website lists more than 600 licensed and registered agents with their addresses and phones. On 23 October 2026 the online list was still the 2025 catalogue, so ask the agent for their licence number and confirm it with the Council: phone 22 66 63 77, info@ktimatomesites.com. The same site has a complaint form for unlicensed agents.
Employment agencies: Department of Labour list
A private employment agency needs a licence from the Director of the Department of Labour. The Department publishes a list of licensed agencies; the version current on 23 October 2026 shows agencies licensed as of 20 May 2026, with licence number, address, responsible person and licence expiry date.
The law protects workers: the agency may not charge the employee any fee, directly or indirectly, for finding, placing or keeping a job, may not collect the employee's wages and may not hold passports or other personal documents. The Department can fine an agency up to €2,500 or suspend it.
Red flags
- The name is not in the register, or the phone and office differ from the register.
- You are asked to pay a deposit to a personal account or in cash before a contract.
- An agent will not give a licence number, or a website is not on CySEC's approved domains list.
- An employment agency asks the worker for a fee or wants to keep a passport.
- A company says it is a law firm or a government office but cannot show a registration.
If in doubt, do not pay. Write to the regulator first and keep copies of everything you were sent.
