Common mistakes
- Signing at home without certification. The signature must be certified, or signed in front of the reception officer.
- Signing abroad before a notary but skipping the consular certification the form asks for.
- Using an authorisation older than one year. The form says it is valid for one year.
- Not checking documents the representative collects. The form says you accept them, and a later correction means paying the reissue fee again.
- Missing passport or ID numbers for either person.
Questions
Where can I download the Authorisation of Representative?
It is a one-page PDF on the Migration Department's forms pages, for example the MEU1, visitors and BCS pages on gov.cy. The current version is dated 19 March 2025.
How long is the authorisation valid?
One year, unless you revoke or replace it earlier, according to the text of the form.
Does my representative remove the need to attend?
Not always. Many applications still need you in person for photo and fingerprints, as each application form states.
Can I fill it in in English?
Yes. The form is in Greek and English.
Is the form free?
The form itself is free. A certifying officer or a notary may charge for certifying your signature, and abroad consular fees may apply.
