Common mistakes
- Ticking a MEDUM box as a student. That column is only for researchers on long-term mobility from another EU country.
- Trying to apply from Cyprus on a tourist or visit visa. The department says a student application cannot be submitted then.
- A passport that runs out too soon. For a first student permit it should cover the stay or at least two years.
- Medical tests or a criminal record certificate from abroad without an apostille or official translation.
- Missing the seven days after arrival to register and give biometrics.
- Renewing without a transcript of progress. The department checks that the student is making sufficient progress.
